Inspiration
The idea of one humanity is neither new nor mine. Two men put it into words in their own way, each in their own time: the astronomer Carl Sagan and the actor Charlie Chaplin. Among many others, two personalities who have the immense power to inspire.

“Look again at that dot.
That’s here. That’s home. That’s us.”
On 14 February 1990, Voyager 1 turned its camera back one last time: from six billion kilometres away, Earth is barely more than a speck of light in scattered sunlight. Sagan read a lesson in humility into it. Every border we have ever drawn lies on that single point, and no one is missing from it. Faith in Humanity begins with this change of view, which shows us not as peoples but as one humanity.

Earth is the tiny bright dot in the sunbeam, just right of centre.

“More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness.”

A barber, mistaken for a dictator, speaks to humanity. His thought is plain and radical at once: humanity is at the core of our being, and the will to help lives in all of us. It only has to count again. Faith in Humanity sees itself as a reminder of that.

“…to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.”
In the end, insight becomes a wish: to treat one another more kindly and to protect what carries us. The pale blue dot is our only home. Faith in Humanity wants to help us see it as a shared home, and to act accordingly.
